Amazon Brand Registry from India - Complete 2026 Guide
Brand Registry unlocks A+ Content, Amazon Stores, Vine, video ads, and the ability to take down hijackers. It also requires a registered or pending USPTO trademark, which adds 8-14 months to your timeline. Here is the full path for Indian founders.
Step 1: File USPTO trademark via TEAS Plus ($250-350).
Step 2: Wait for "examined" status (~8 months).
Step 3: Apply for Brand Registry the moment your serial number is examined.
Step 4: Unlock A+, Stores, Vine, video ads, hijacker tools.
Indian founder hack: File the trademark on Day 1 of your LLC, before any product launches. The 8-month wait runs in parallel.

What Brand Registry actually unlocks
Without Brand Registry, you sell as a generic seller - anyone can list their product against your ASIN, your listing can be hijacked, your A+ Content is unavailable. Brand Registry membership unlocks roughly 11 capabilities, of which 5 materially affect revenue:
- A+ Content (Enhanced Brand Content): the rich product description with images, comparison tables, and modules. Average conversion rate lift: 6-12 percentage points. This alone justifies Brand Registry.
- Amazon Stores: a branded multi-page mini-website on Amazon (e.g. amazon.com/brandname). Drives 8-15% of total revenue for our clients.
- Amazon Vine: the official Amazon program for getting 30 unbiased reviews on a new product, gifted at your cost. Best new-product traction lever there is.
- Sponsored Brands video ads: the 30-second video at the top of search. Highest-ROAS ad format we run.
- Hijacker take-down tools: if someone lists their own product against your ASIN, Brand Registry lets you submit a takedown that gets resolved in 1-3 days instead of weeks.
USPTO trademark - the prerequisite
Brand Registry requires either a registered or pending USPTO trademark. Indian trademark registrations do not work. You must file in the United States with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office).
Two filing tracks:
- TEAS Plus ($250 per class): requires using USPTO's pre-approved description of goods. Cheaper but less flexible.
- TEAS Standard ($350 per class): lets you write a custom description. More flexibility but more expensive.
"Class" refers to USPTO's 45 trademark classes. Most Indian Amazon sellers file in 1-2 classes - typically Class 24 (textiles), Class 21 (kitchenware), Class 25 (apparel), Class 3 (cosmetics), Class 28 (toys), or Class 5 (supplements).
Costs and timeline
| Step | Cost | Time |
|---|---|---|
| USPTO filing (TEAS Plus, 1 class) | $250 | Same day |
| USPTO filing (2 classes) | $500 | Same day |
| Examiner review | $0 | 8-10 months |
| Office Action response (if any) | $0-1,500 | 1-3 months |
| Publication for opposition | $0 | 30 days |
| Registration certificate issued | $0 | 3-6 months after publication |
| Total to registration | $250-500 | 12-16 months |
Good news: Brand Registry accepts pending trademarks (status "Live / Pending Examination" or later), not just registered ones. This means you can join Brand Registry roughly 8 months after filing, instead of waiting the full 12-16 months for registration.
Indian founder mistakes
- Filing the trademark in India first. Indian trademark registration is irrelevant for USPTO. Many founders waste 8 months filing in India before learning this.
- Filing under the founder's personal name. The trademark should be owned by your US LLC, not your personal name or Indian Pvt Ltd. Amazon will require this match.
- Trademark name conflicts with existing US brand. Search the USPTO database (TESS) before filing. We do this check free for all clients.
- Generic / descriptive marks. "Pure Cotton Sheets" cannot be trademarked (descriptive). "Sanskara Linens" can. Choose distinctive over descriptive.
- Waiting to file until product is selling. The 8-month wait is the longest single delay in your launch path. File on Day 1 of your LLC, even before product samples exist.
Filing the trademark yourself
USPTO's TEAS system is online at uspto.gov/trademarks/apply. You'll need:
- Your US LLC name + EIN + address
- The exact mark (logo or wordmark) - JPG/PNG if logo
- List of goods/services (use TEAS Plus pre-approved list)
- Class number(s)
- Specimen of use (a photo showing your mark on a real product, or your live Amazon listing) - required for "in-use" filings; not required for "intent-to-use" filings
- $250-350 fee per class via credit card
The filing takes about 90 minutes if you have everything ready.
Filing through us
We file USPTO trademarks for clients at $499 flat fee (covers our work + the $250 USPTO filing fee). We do the TESS search, write the goods description, file under your LLC, handle Office Action responses if any arise.
Our service is bundled in the Brand tier ($4,999) at no additional cost. For Starter and Launch tier clients, we offer it as a $499 add-on. We do not mark up the USPTO fee.
After your brand is registered
Once your trademark is "examined" (~8 months after filing) and you receive a USPTO serial number, you can apply for Brand Registry at brandservices.amazon.com:
- Submit your trademark registration or serial number
- Provide brand name, logo files (multiple variants), and government IDs of brand reps
- Verify ownership via Amazon's verification call (~3-5 days)
- Brand Registry approval: 1-2 weeks total
Once approved, A+ Content unlocks immediately. Stores can be built within 24 hours. Vine eligibility activates for new ASINs. Hijacker takedown tool becomes available.
