Multi-Channel Fulfillment Explained: MCF vs a 3PL in 2026

You sell on Amazon, Walmart, eBay and your own store, but your stock sits in different places. Multi-channel fulfillment is how you ship every order from one pool. The question is whether to use Amazon MCF or an independent 3PL.

Multi-Channel Fulfillment Explained: MCF vs a 3PL in 2026

Amazon MCF ships your non-Amazon orders out of your FBA stock, convenient, but it uses Amazon-branded packaging options, costs more per order, and ties you to FBA stock levels. An independent 3PL fulfils every channel from one neutral pool, with your branding, flat rates, and no dependence on FBA capacity or IPI.

What multi-channel fulfillment is

Multi-channel fulfillment means shipping orders from every sales channel, Amazon, Walmart, eBay, Shopify, out of one inventory pool, rather than keeping separate stock for each. It is what lets a growing seller sell everywhere without multiplying their inventory.

How Amazon MCF works

Amazon MCF uses your existing FBA stock to fulfil non-Amazon orders. You send Amazon the order, it picks, packs and ships from FBA. Convenient if you are already heavy on FBA.

Where MCF falls short

Three limits: it draws down the same FBA stock that feeds your Amazon sales (so a Shopify rush can stock you out on Amazon), per-order costs can be higher, and you are tied to Amazon's capacity and your IPI, see IPI and storage limits. Branding options are also limited.

What a 3PL does instead

An independent 3PL holds a neutral pool and ships every channel, including Amazon FBM, with your own branded packaging and flat, predictable rates. Your Amazon and non-Amazon sales no longer compete for the same FBA stock.

One pool, every channel

The efficient model is one pool at a 3PL feeding FBA (via drip-feed), Walmart WFS, and direct FBM, eBay and Shopify orders, with returns to one dock. Buy once, prep once, sell everywhere. See Walmart WFS vs FBA for the multi-channel case.

Which fits you

If you are almost entirely on Amazon and want the least setup, MCF is simple. If you sell meaningfully across channels or want your own branding and stable costs, a 3PL is the stronger base. We fulfil every channel from one pool at our owned Texas warehouse. See our service or get a quote.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between MCF and a 3PL?

Amazon MCF fulfils your other channels using your FBA inventory and Amazon's logistics. An independent 3PL holds a separate pool and ships all channels, including Amazon FBM, with your own branding and flat pricing, without depending on FBA stock or your IPI score.

Can I ship Shopify orders from my FBA stock?

Yes, through Amazon MCF, but it draws down the same FBA inventory that feeds your Amazon sales and can carry higher per-order costs. Many sellers instead hold stock at a 3PL and fulfil Shopify, Walmart and Amazon FBM from there.
